Harvey Milk was the first openly gay man to hold public office in California. The "Mayor of Castro Street" was sadly assassinated by Dan White and not given equal justice by the courts. He wrote and succeeded in passing a key anti-discrimination bill. White received a sentence of 7yrs (5 with good behavior) which led to the White Night Riots.
